What if the economy was based on the health of our water, air, soil and habits? he outcomes may include: restoration of wildlife corridors, local efficient renewable energy; local sustainable organic food; walkable cities; durable and repairable products. An Ecology Based Economy is just 1 of the 3 mandates that compromise the Ecology Democracy Network, which will be the topic of today’s discussion.
10:45-11:15 Medicinal Herbs Barbara Ford- The Spirited Sage
The plant world provides plenty of ways to help you heal from illness or injury. Learn what ways medicinal herbs can be implemented into your health and wellness program. There are many types of herbal preparations that make herbal use as easy or as complex as you desire. Barbara Ford, Master Herbalist, will introduce you to the common types of medicinal herb use.

Citizens Utility Board
CUB staff will provide an educational presentation to help consumers understand their utility bills, highlight ways to reduce energy costs, and make attended aware of programs and debates for which they may be eligible.
12:15-12:45 Solar 101– All Energy Solar
This info session will cover how solar power has never been more affordable and easier to install. Topics to be presented include basics of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system, step-by-step process to determine if solar is right for a property, economic benefits, financing options, an overview of incentives available, and a Q&A session.
1:00- End You Yard-A Food Producing Paradise Marcia Baudino
Using Permaculture (permanent agriculture) techniques, local resident, Marcia Baudino, has transformed her average Coon Rapids lot into a food producing paradise. She has raised beds to grow annual vegetables and an integrated permaculture design in the front yard which includes 140 fruit bushes. Using food she grows, and some purchased from the local farmers markets, Marcia fills four freezers with meals each season that sustain her family year round. She will share her story, present photos and send you home with resources to get you started eating locally or growing your own groceries!
A look back at 2016
Hundreds of visitors turned out for the 7th annual Green Expo at the National Sports Center on April 23, 2016. The City of Coon Rapids partnered with the City of Blaine and the National Sports Center to provide a larger space for the growing annual event. Exhibitors ranged from energy specialists to government and educational resources and were able to share sustainability ideas, products and services to promote sustainable living in Minnesota. The ever popular “make your own” non-toxic products was available to bring home. The popularity of this expanding and changing event doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
